We didn’t know it at the time, but back in 2008, probably over a glass of wine, the Intervale began. Six of us were studying creative writing in Montreal and enjoying workshopping our work together so much that when the year ended, we were reluctant to stop. And so we began to meet each week at one another’s houses, discussing each other’s writing over dinner and beginning a conversation that we’re now continuing here, on this page.

In the years since then, we’ve continued writing and begun publishing (see our bios). But after completing school, we found ourselves divided by geography, as some of us left Montreal and made homes in Halifax; Cape Breton; TK, Ontario; and Perpignan, France. And so, the Intervale became a way for us to share what we were reading, thinking, studying, wondering, and learning, across that distance. We hope it will be a place to talk about reading, writing, publishing, and everything in between. We will post regularly and will invite our friends and those we admire to post here, too.

Thanks for reading.
